This demonstration software should be installed to a hard disc and requires
approximately 4.2 MB (megabytes) of disc space.
The installation program creates a directory on the hard disc containing
sample TIFF (Tag Image File Format) files from the standard EDC-1000,
EDC-1000TE, EDC-1000HR, and EDC-1000C computer cameras, and two TIFF viewers,
HVIEW for gray scale TIFF files, and CVIEW for 24-bit color TIFF files, as
well as VGADEMO, a demonstration version of the VGACAM program supplied with
the EDC-1000 and EDC-1000TE cameras. A batch file, RUNEDC, is included to
display the images. HFALSE is a viewer program included to view gray scale
images in false color.
This demonstration disc requires a 286 or better processor. CVIEW uses DOS
extender technology and requires approximately 1.5 MB of available memory.
HVIEW requires a Super VGA card that supports VESA (Video Electronic Standards
Association) BIOS extensions version 1.0 or higher and hardware support for
256 colors at 800x600 resolution.
CVIEW requires a Super VGA card that supports VESA (Video Electronic Standards
Association) BIOS extensions version 1.2 or higher and hardware support for
16-bit color at 800x600 resolution.
The sample images files may be of interest even if the user's system does not
support the supplied file viewers. The supplied file viewers are not general
purpose TIFF file viewers, but are designed to work with TIFF files created
by ELECTRIM Digital Camera software.
To install the software, place the disc in the disc drive, and from the DOS
prompt enter:
X:INSTALL
(where X represents the drive letter of the disc drive into which the disc
has been placed.)
For example, if the disc has been placed in the B drive, enter:
B:INSTALL
Note that the installation program will NOT modify any of the user's system
files, such as AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. Typical installation time on a
50 MHz 486 is 45 seconds.

been converted from eight bits (265 gray levels) to six bits (64 gray levels).
Also to save disc space, the files fruit, tree, and moon have been converted
from 24 bits (16.7 million colors) to 16 bits (64 K colors).

VGADEMO
-------
VGADEMO is a demonstration version of the VGACAM program supplied with the
EDC-1000 Computer Camera. The ability to acquire live camera images is, of
course, not supported in this demonstration version.
Press 'n' to cycle to the next EDC-1000/EDC-1000TE image. Press 'w' to adjust
brightness of text on the screen. Press 'h' for help information.
Some things to try: press 'g' to get a tiff file. Enter "ruler" as the name
of the TIFF file. Press any key when prompted to do so. The picture of a
ruler should now be displayed. Note a few bright pixels on the bottom row of
the image. When the image was made, "dark current" subtraction (using the
'D' and 'r' commands of VGACAM) could have been used to correct these pixels.
As dark current subtraction was not used, the horizontal median filter
function can now be used to partially correct for these bright pixels. Press
'm' and the bright pixels should be removed (along with some vertical edge
information, such as some ruler markings). Press 'b' to see the brightness
range of the picture. Pressing 'b' displays three numbers to the lower right
of the image. The first number is the lowest brightness level in the image,
the second number is the brightness level represented by the greatest number
of pixels, and the third number is the highest brightness level in the image.
Now press 'c' to see the effect of contrast enhancement.
Press 'x' to tag a gray level with high intensity (green, on a color monitor).
Use page up and page down keys to move the tagged gray level. Press 'z' to
see a zoomed display of the image. Note the coordinates displayed to the
right of the image. Use the arrow keys to move the zoom window over the
image.
Note that the number of gray levels indicated (to the lower left of the image)
is the number of gray levels able to be displayed. All the images acquired by
the EDC-1000 and EDC-1000TE are 8 bits per pixel, allowing 256 gray levels.
The tagging of gray levels ('x') allows each of the 256 gray levels to be
examined.
Note: a VGA (Video Graphics Array) card, register compatible with an IBM VGA
is required for VGADEMO. Software supplied with the EDC-1000 and EDC-1000TE
supports VGA, EGA, CGA, MCGA, and Hercules graphics standards.
HFALSE
------
HFALSE is a program to view uncompressed 8-bit gray scale TIFF files, such
as those created by EDC-1000 and EDC-1000HR software, in false color. HFALSE
is not a general purpose TIFF reader.
A Super VGA monitor and a VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association)
compliant Super VGA card are required.
To view JUPMOONS.TIF using HFALSE:
From the DOS prompt, type HFALSE and press enter. The HFALSE menu should be
displayed. Press the DownArrow key once to bring the red cursor next to the
"Spectral" palette choice. Press enter. Press the DownArrow key three times
to bring the red cursor next to the "Logarithmic" mapping choice. Press
enter. Press the DownArrow key three times to bring the red cursor next to
"Filename". Press enter. Type "jupmoons" (do not include the quotation
marks). Press enter to select the JUPMOONS.TIF image. Press the DownArrow
key once to bring the red cursor next to "Display image". Press enter to
display the image. After the image is displayed, press any key to return to
the HFALSE menu.
